Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 1, 2025

1. Who We Are

DirtyJobs.app ("DirtyJobs," "we," "us," or "our") is a marketplace that connects homeowners and businesses ("Customers") with independent tradespeople ("Contractors") for home services. Our registered business address is in the United States. Questions about this policy can be directed to privacy@dirtyjobs.app.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account registration details: name, email address, zip code, and role (Customer or Contractor).
  • Contractor profile information: skills, service area, work history, and availability.
  • Job postings: description, location, and scheduled date.
  • Communications: messages sent through the platform between Customers and Contractors.
  • Payment details: billing information processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Background check consent and results, processed by Checkr on our behalf.

Information collected automatically

  • Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps.
  • Device information: operating system and screen resolution.
  • Cookies: session authentication cookies (HttpOnly, not accessible to JavaScript) and analytics identifiers.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account and authenticate you securely.
  • To match Customers with qualified Contractors.
  • To process payments and escrow job funds via Stripe.
  • To conduct background checks on Contractors via Checkr.
  • To resolve disputes and appeals between parties.
  • To send transactional emails (job updates, payment confirmations, dispute notices).
  • To improve the platform, diagnose technical problems, and analyze usage trends.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

  • Between parties on a job: Customers and Contractors can see each other's first name, general location, and job-relevant profile information once a bid is accepted.
  • Service providers: Stripe (payments), Checkr (background checks), Firebase (authentication), SendGrid (email). These parties are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or third parties.
  • Business transfers: If DirtyJobs is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. After deletion, we retain records necessary for dispute resolution, legal compliance, and tax reporting (typically 7 years for financial records). Log data is retained for up to 90 days.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
  • Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format).

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@dirtyjobs.app. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies

We use a single session cookie (dj_session) to keep you logged in. It is HttpOnly and signed with an HMAC key — it cannot be read or forged by JavaScript. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

8. Security

We use industry-standard practices: TLS in transit, encrypted session cookies, Firebase Authentication for identity, and Stripe for payment data. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password and contact us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

9. Children

DirtyJobs is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated by email or a prominent notice on the platform at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
